How do we cultivate something that, in our fallen state, is not present within us?
In Mathew Henry’s Commentary on Psalm 119:18, he states;
“We are by nature blind to the things of God till His grace causes the scales to fall from our eyes . . . the more God opens our eyes the more wonders we see in the word of God which we saw not before.”
Take heart if the appetite for the feast of His word is absent from your life. See that realization as an empty cup only God can fill. If you are willing, ask Him to supply you with a new desire and a thirst for more of Him.
The psalmist in 119: 17-18 recognizing his need implores,
“Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word. Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from your law.”
Drink up and savor well the bounty of His word and time within His presence. By and by as you partake of this means of grace, He will develop in you an awakening spiritual pallet. One grounded in fact, not feeling . . . truth, not fleeting emotions.
Don't forget, His love abides beyond your perception. And remember, dear one … to always ask for more.
